About

The Metal Dispatch is a platform for rapid fire reviews of new albums in the world of metal music.

I got the idea for making this metal review/blog site while enjoying one or more beers and listening to a psychedelic doom record. Take from that what you will.

The main purpose of the site is to provide comprehensive lists of weekly metal releases and offering, at minimum, a one sentence personal take on each record (edit: I’ve had to scale this back since the beginning of this project due to the sheer amount of releases, and rather prioritize quality over outright quantity). To balance out my subjective rating I will also endeavor to produce a score seen from an objective standpoint. In other words – pretend for a second that I actually like, or at least tolerate, certain subgenres that I would normally never listen to *coughpowermetal*cough.

The selection of weekly albums is mainly the same as that of Metal Injection in their Weekly Injection features. Huge props to these guys for being an awesome source of news, reviews, information and inspiration in the world of metal. Album cover images are mostly sourced from their respective Bandcamp pages.

Hopefully this can be a useful guide for other metal fans out there looking to navigate the torrential current of new releases. Separating the gold from the sludge (no pun intended) can be a bit of a chore, so leave it to those who find some oddball enjoyment in it.

Find that I’m missing a title or two in my weekly rundown? That might be because I normally don’t review…

  • Live/streaming albums
  • Acoustic albums or adapted versions of already existing albums
  • Tribute/cover albums
  • Albums outside metal with only vague ties to the genre
  • Singles and EPs
  • Albums I can’t find on Spotify, Tidal or Bandcamp
